JOB SUMMARY:
The Music Theory and Aural Skills Teacher at Boyce Music and Worship is responsible for teaching core courses, including MU110 Music Theory I: Analysis, MU120 Music Theory II: Songwriting, MU210 Music Theory III: Arranging, MU115 Aural Skills I, MU124 Aural Skills II, and MU215 Aural Skills III. This position requires expertise in music theory, aural training, and integrating these disciplines into worship contexts, songwriting, and producing. The teacher will also assist in curriculum development and assess student progress. This role reports to the Program Coordinator.
ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The employee in this position will have the following essential job functions:
EDUCATION:
It is required that the person in this position hold at least a Master's degree in Music Theory, Music Education, or a related field. A Doctoral degree in a relevant field is preferred.
EXPERIENCE:
It is required that the person in this position have at least 2 years of teaching experience in music theory and aural skills at the college level. Experience with integrating music theory into worship contexts, songwriting, and music production is preferred. A proven track record of academic excellence and curriculum development is highly valued.
SUPERVISION:
The person in this position will supervise and mentor undergraduate music students. They will provide guidance on academic progress, assist in musical development, and may lead group study sessions. Additionally, the teacher will collaborate with fellow faculty members, offering peer support and feedback. Regular meetings will be held with the Program Coordinator to discuss curriculum development and student outcomes.
The person in this position will report to the program coordinator of Boyce Music and Worship.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The person in this position will work in a collaborative, academic environment within the Boyce Music and Worship Department. This will include both in-person classroom settings for lectures and practical sessions, as well as occasional online teaching opportunities. The work environment is centered around fostering student engagement in a Christian academic setting. Faculty members work closely together in a supportive, ministry-driven atmosphere, often coordinating with other departments, students, and worship leaders. Flexibility is required to meet the diverse needs of students and faculty alike.
